Time to reflect on our time in Mongolia whilst on the train from Ulaanbaatar to Ulan Ude.....
Much more relaxed atmosphere, people are just going about their daily business without rushing.
A lot more litter around, there didn't seem to be the same diligence to maintaining a clean environment. The city air wasn't as clear as imagined but the country air was beautifully clear with blue skies.
Both the city and the country were cold, with a very chilly wind blowing in the country. Apparently Ulaanbaatar is the capital city with some of the lowest temperatures.
Learnt some interesting facts from our local guide Jagaana....
The Mongolians don't name their animals
Gers are built facing SE to protect them from the Chinese,
Should never point - it is disrespectful, should gesture with the palm of the hand
For Buddhist temples and Buddhist homes shouldn't stand on the first step - step over with the right foot otherwise standing on owners head and move around clockwise. In the Gers there are two centre poles representing husband and wife should not walk between the poles.
This statue is a symbol of peace with an elephant monkey rabbit and bird.
