It snowed this morning!!! Yesterday we were wearing T-shirts
and today it is every layer we own …. well almost. Driving out of the city the
sleet very quickly turned to snow. The first time Heidi saw it snowing was at
the Grand canyon with Linda and the second The Gobi desert!
We drove for 4 hours through magical country side watching
the nomads riding their horses, moving house, the animals roam free. They do
not have fences they allow their animals to roam freely, some even following
their heard as they move for ‘greener pastures’.
We arrived at our accommodation for the night. A tourist
park in the countryside – read safari tent with a stove that gets stoked every
few hours for you. The 4 of us have gotten very good at grabbing snacks in the
morning for lunch – we get a good breakfast and dinner. Today’s lunch was in
Ron and Diane’s Ger as we decided it was too cold to eat outside, accompanied
by a Mongolian Beer.
This afternoon we headed to the ancient city of Kharakhorum
to one of the oldest Buddhist Temples in Mongolia and then a very informative
Museum. The trip there though was the highlight of our trip so far – the camel
ride in the Gobi Desert.
We were introduced to Mongolian Vodka after our yummy dinner
– all of us too cosy to head out into the cold night but we shouldn’t have been
worried it is toasty and warm in these Gers!
